Laws prohibiting interference with flight crews and passengers [hmm...specific laws for flights?] have been put in place, however, as a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks, laws have become stricter and the FBI have pressed down harder on violators of these laws.
Violators of these laws are not uncommon, as the Federal Aviation Administration has reported 900 cases over the past five years [shocked face.] Because of the increase in cases, the FAA raised the crime penalty from interfering with a crew member or passenger from $1,100 to $25,000 [
Violations of these crimes usually become angry as a result of being refused an alcoholic beverage after becoming inebriated, or refusing to comply with the electronic rules of the flight [translation: passengers are drunk pests].
Currently several airlines require all flight crew members to take courses on how to diffuse confrontation and calm down belligerent [crazy] passengers.
